In Alameda County we have asked and they said no at this time. They are not even thinking about that at this time. We are in Oakland.
Christine Psefteas

Has anyone considered having a ‘ToGo’ festival?
AJ Kemper
42:55
In Portland, OR we were hoping to do a “take out” version of the Greek Festival but we haven’t yet heard back from the Health Department if that will be allowed
Jean Costopoulos Weeks-San Luis Obispo
43:07
Our venue in San Luis Obispo is not allowing more than our county requirements. No Permits necessary at this time.

Bill Koukourikos
43:50
Our festival is small, about 3000 participants. We break even at about 2500. We are leaning to not having a festival since all we may do is work hard and make no cash. Maybe a take out event
Peter Vallis - Fresno
43:51
In Fresno, CA they are allowing drive through food at the County Fair facilities - so we are planing a week of drive through.

for long beach we are looking to do a drive thru. we have not checked with the city yet
John Karas
44:13
Tomorrows PC meeting will be the time the Parish decides regarding attempting to do a festival. In the meantime a "to go" idea is also going to be discussed.
Bill Koukourikos

Peter Vallis - Fresno

That Ohio Festival has done drive through for many years.

Monterey, Santa Cruz (most likely) and San Luis Obispo will not be having Festivals this year. This is Georgia Chronopoulos from Prophet Elias in Santa Cruz. we are planning a drive thru food to go for our prophet Elias day next month.
Anastacia Stamates
45:24
With a to-go festival how is everyone planning to do the cooking? Most of our cooks are the older people in our parish.
dino
45:51
for long beach it will be limited menu.

46:27
One big challenge is the Las Vegas had the highest unemployment rate of any city of 1 million or more for both March and April. April came in at 33.5%. Vegas is opening very slowly. It is anticipated that at most, 60% of the people will be called back to work. Spending money for people is going to be a challenge.
John Karas
46:59
If we do a "to go", we will do our own cooking as we do for every festival.
Nicolette Efstathiou- Castro Valley, CA
47:28
is anyone just not doing a festival and asking parishioners to donate a certain amount to make up for the loss?
Nicolette Efstathiou- Castro Valley, CA

if so, how are you going about that

Kristina Mehas
52:41
Kristina Mehas from Assumption in Seattle. Our Parish was going to start changing the focus of our festival this year from that of a money maker (We are still dependent on the income but we didn’t want that to continue to drive our decisions) to a focus on outreach. Are any other parishes looking at incorporating some sort of outreach with any contingency plans?
Jean Costopoulos Weeks-San Luis Obispo
53:31
San Luis Obispo, CA has postpones its festival from original date of May 30 & 31st to September 26 & 27. Having said that, we will probably cancel this as well, so that we can safely cook together in our small kitchen. We have saved the date for next year of June 5 & 6th, 2021.
Tony Kostas
54:43
Has anyone come up with an alternative to a festival?
Alexis

We have a good plan in place as well. But it’s only as good as your County/State will allow. If you haven’t checked with your local Health Inspector, it may all be a wasted effort
Bill Koukourikos
58:12
If we can sell 1000 meals to go, at $20 each, that’s $20k with about a $4k cost. That’s great numbers and we should all consider it.
Thimi Saites
58:25
The Monterey festival has been postponed until closer to the end of the year. The tentative dates are the first weekend of November. One of our thoughts is a mini festival, one or two days instead of three and a much smaller scale.
John Karas
01:02:39
Through our Stewardship/Outreach committee we have made an extensive effort to have PC and other members in leadership positions to call other people. This has gotten a lot of positive feedback and has helped with Stewardship. We are on track to match last years Stewardship.
Alexis
01:02:58
@John Karas - That's amazing!!
John Karas
01:04:46
@Alexis that is good news. Our annual challenge is that Stewardship only covers about 40% of our basic operating costs. Adding in trays, candles, bookstores, & small fundraisers we get to 67% of our basic operating costs. This is why are festival is so critical. We are working with our community on this challenge.

Tony Kostas
01:13:27
Someone mentioned at our parish that Saint Nicholas in Northridge was able to raise a lot of money to replace their Memorial Day Festival. Is anyone on here from Saint Nick that can tell us how they did it?
John Karas
01:13:41
Understand your concerns Bill, we usually get 25,000 plus every year and the grounds on the Church are packed.
Bill Koukourikos
01:14:50
People love Greek food, especially in communities where there is no good Greek restaurant. For the small churches, the only real answer is the food to go ideas on a limited menu and much lower volume than it used to be. But, your expenses will be much lower since the tents, etc will not be there,
Bill Koukourikos
01:17:34
That’s good Vasili, that’s basically our going in planning idea now in Lancaster. It’s the best option to stay in contact with the people that love the festival and keep them engaged for next year when we should be able to have a real festival.

Although the Resurrection parish in Castro Valley cancelled the golf tournament, we had contacted the golf course and determined the restrictions. The committee sent out a survey to the 2019 golfers and shared the restrictions. Based on the survey results, we cancelled the tournament.

Seems like, particularly in states mid-way open like California, the possibility of our county going backwards in stay-at-home order phases should be considered.

As Metropolis Stewardship Chair, I want to make a plug for an upcoming Stewardship Chairs Zoom we will host in the next week or two (similar to this call). As challenging as this year will be for our parishes, I pray we will increase Stewardship to fund our parishes’ operating costs and not rely on our Festivals.

• Here it comes in pieces:To-go food festival (see Ohio parish http://saintdemetriosrrorg/festival/)• Drive-through food (i.e., at county fairs)• Silent auction (online)• Raffle• Cultural event, at fixed price, with limited offerings (i.e., Wine & cheese event)• Special giving donation in lieu of event income• Mini-festival; shorter days and offerings• Fundraising “by booth”
George P. Psefteas
01:54:11
• Selling pre-cooked meals (like to-go?)• Golf tournaments cancelled for some parishes; some still considering• Third-party source for non-profits with many fundraising ideas: https://oneoc.org• Rent out parish space if that is an option for parishes (parking lot spots, etc., to other organizations)• Ad book sale only (Annunciation Cathedral, SF)• Donations/sponsorships from outside the community (in lieu of full golf tourney)• Outreach – sponsorships by private businesses with portion going to community charity• Online silent auctions (not necessarily tied to golf tourney)• Virtual Gala
George P. Psefteas
01:54:29
• Two or more parishes coming together to put together one event/festival (share the work; share the risk; share the profits)• Friendly parish competition (online); cultural showcase (dance groups; parish history; other?)• Drive-in movie nights (to show we are out in community)• Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) – ask your Treasurers!
